Tips for Playing and Viewing

Children of any age benefit from having a variety of stimulating experiences, environments, and situations. Fisher-Price™ Games, Activities, Webisodes and Apps are contemporary ways to interact and play. Think of them as an extra tool in your toy box as you play with your child. Here are a few pointers to keep in mind when you engage your child with media:

Review the content beforehand

Limit the amount of viewing time

Take periodic breaks

Interact with your children during play

Avoid screen time before bedtime - research shows it can interfere with getting to sleep

Want to extend the play and learning even more? Try some Playtips:

Getting started. Review the content first to get acquainted with it and decide what will be most engaging and appropriate for your child.

Use word descriptors and label objects on the screen. Talking to your child can help them begin to understand meaning and foster developing language skills. When you ask questions, identify new and familiar objects, and extend the dialogue and images, you make connections to your child’s surroundings and life experiences.

Sing along. As you sing, you expose your child to rhyming words and phrases, providing an experience that can foster developing vocabulary.

Foster thinking skills. Practice silly sounds of animals and vehicles, or other fun noises with your child. By interacting with the on-screen characters and activities, your baby may begin to anticipate actions and responses.

Encourage exploration and discovery. As your child interacts with the different play features for the first time, show excitement and reinforcement as you label the different objects on the screen. “You found the Puppy! That’s a butterfly—let’s see what it does!”

Reinforce practicing fine motor skills. Encourage your child to tap, point, or swipe objects on the screen and explore a variety of activities. Action/reaction activity fosters an understanding of cause and effect as baby interacts and makes things happen.

Give lots of praise to enhance self-confidence as your child learns how to successfully make things happen—over and over again!
